Argon Oxygen Decarburization (AOD) converter

Stainless steel melting, followed by refining in an AOD demands extremely tight controls over the entire process, from selecting the raw materials to refining and casting. A typical EAF practice would be to melt-down under a basic reducing slag. The AOD slag plays an important role from decarburization to lowering sulphur levels and reducing expensive oxides back into the metal.

 Profitability Solutions:

  • Higher CaO content with stricter controls on impurities, such as SiO2, S and controlled LOI content, helps our customers achieve reduced lime and dolomitic lime consumption and better chromium and silicon recovery. Reduction in lime and dolomitic lime consumption further helps to reduce slag volumes yielding significant process benefits.
  • Our products meet these stringent specifications which helps our customers to achieve the ideal levels of sulphur and recovery of alloys. Our ultra-low carbon lime and dolomitic lime further helps to avoid carbon pick-up during the refining stage.
